WIP Wednesday: Meow Mix

Much like the Tula Pink City Sampler blocks, these Catvent blocks are also totally addictive… Digging through my scraps and playing with color placement is so much fun. I finished the blue kitties, got through the greens, and even started the yellows… 13 down, 12 to go. Oh, and I’ve decided to call this one “Meow Mix”.

Yellow and orange are the weakest parts of my stash. (Actually, browns are, but I’m not making any brown kitties.) I’m nervous about the next few blocks! I’m thankful that Cindy at SeeLifeMarvels has offered to send me some orange scraps, and I am looking forward to that happy mail day! Even though I don’t love yellow on its own, I do like it in small doses in projects, so I can’t figure out why I don’t have more of it. I DO know why I don’t have more orange- I just don’t like it very much.

Now, when I make it to the purple cats…look out! I could probably make an entire purple Catvent quilt just from my scrap bin!

Are you good at stashing colors across the spectrum, or do you find yourself buying more of your favorite colors? And if the latter- what are your favorite colors? I know you know I love purple, and then greens, and grays and blues. You know, all the colors in my City Sampler blocks 😉

  1. Your catvent is coming along nicely! I can see how easy it would be to get into a project like that. You and I would be great at stash sharing. I have a lot of trouble buying purples. But am drawn to blues and greens.

  2. The options are endless, what you can do with a piece of scrap fabric! Good job!

    • even though I have a ridiculous amount of yardage stashed, I’ve started to get obsessed with making things JUST from my scrap bins… I’ll have to work to find a good balance! Thanks for visiting, Sam

  3. What fun! I started doing the same thing, but got sidetracked. (very typical of me) I think I should dig them out.

    • these are for a wedding gift, so I have a firm deadline keeping me focused 🙂 I’d love to see your blocks… Thanks for visiting! -Sam

  4. I don’t have much yellow either and my problem is buying blues! They look great. I really like the light blue ones (no surprise there!)

    • I’m much better at dark or deep blue than light blue… we could swap if you were closer 😉

  5. these blocks are so stinking cute!!! love the quilt name, too – very clever!

  6. Looking good and I like the name 🙂

    • The only problem with the name is that there was once a really catchy jingle in a meow mix commercial- and it keeps running through my head 😦

  7. These are sooo cute! Love the colors. I love orange and brown fabrics and find I don’t have enough of those in my stash!!!

    • I can appreciate the beauty pf both oranges and browns, and have even worked with them, but I never seem to enjoy them personally 😦 I spent last year doing a BOM that was for my mom, and her house has loads of brown, so I totally worked outside my comfort zone… (But I did mange to work in some purple!) -Sam
